Housing Development Programs
As a Certified Community Housing Development Organization, Freedom West CDC’s housing program is multi-faceted. Its housing program includes:
- The rehabilitation of owner-occupied single family homes assists homeowners in reducing energy costs, removing barriers to access, improving safety features, and insuring structural soundness of each unit.
- The development of new single family homeowner units which are marketed to income qualified buyers and which provide down-payment assistance and homebuyer education.
- The acquisition-rehabilitation-rental/purchase program assists communities in removing blight while increasing the supply of quality housing for the regional workforce.
- Staff provide certified Homebuyer Education Classes to prospective homebuyers, and will provide homebuyer education upon request by area lenders.
- Area Lender Training Programs are offered annually to assist local lenders with contemporary mortgage products and awareness of down payment assistance programs and homebuyer education services.
- Accomplishments: Since 2006, Freedom West CDC has rehabilitated over 140 homes; constructed 2 new units and will begin construction on two more single family affordable housing units during 2010; hosted lender training sessions focusing on affordable housing and mortgage assistance information; provided homebuyer education to prospective homeowners in all five counties; assisted local lenders with the purchase of foreclosed properties; and worked with municipal governments on neighborhood revitalization strategies.
